The Explorer was first introduced in 1958 to a mixture of reactions. Even now, it’s a body shape that turns heads and stands out from the crowd – imagine what it must’ve been like back then! Despite a ground-breaking design that was years ahead of its time, the initial run of Explorers was short-lived, alongside its pointy counterpart, the Flying V; those original instruments are among some of the priciest and most sought-after in the world. One of the other things that set it apart from the rest of Gibson’s range was the use of Korina as the main body wood. Korina proved to be a difficult wood to work with due to its unpredictable reactions to moisture; because of this, Gibson very quickly adopted mahogany as their body wood of choice – making original Korina Explorers and Flying Vs even more valuable and elusive! Now Epiphone has set about paying tribute to the designer guitar that started it all; introducing the Limited Edition Korina Explorer!
